Back to School with Orthoquest

September 01, 2020

The new school year is fast approaching and we want to help you get prepared for another epic year, even if it looks a little different this year. Whether you are a student, parent, teacher or other professional here is Orthoquest's 5 part 'lesson plan' for back to school (or work) shopping!

Lesson #1: "Be Prepared"

Are you still dealing with an injury from this summer that is slowing you down? Or perhaps fall sports are starting up! Don't start your year off on a bad note - braces can be great tools in helping to keep your body in a proper alignment allowing for the time to heal and strengthen the muscles around the affected areas. Click here to browse our selection of bracing products.
Lesson #2: "Don't be tardy"
Switching orthotics between shoes can be tiring, don't let it slow you down! Fall is a great time to look at getting a second pair of orthotics made so you don't have to keep switching them rom house slippers to runners to (eventually) winter boots). Click here to book an appointment for a new pair of orthotics.
Lesson #3: "Stay Focused"
September often comes long days, busy schedules and not much time for rest - long gone are the days of relaxation at the lake. But sitting at a desk all day or in front of a screen can be tiring not only on your eyes but also on your legs. Keep your legs (and feet) healthy by trying a pair of compression socks - they will help keep your blood moving and keep you feeling energized all day. Click here to browse our selection of compression socks.
Lesson #4: "Comfort is key"
Whether you are heading back to the classroom or continuing to work from home, the fall is a great time to look at what we are putting on our feet, in and out of home. Just how we often switch our shorts and tank tops for sweaters and long pants, we should also look at replacing old worn out footwear with new, supportive options. How do you know if it's time for new shoes? Ask yourself a couple of questions: Am I experiencing any new aches or pains? Are there any visible signs of wear and tear on my shoes? Have I had my shoes longer than a year? If you answer yes to any of those questions, chances are it is time for some new shoes! Click here to browse our selection of shoes.
Lesson #5: "Have fun"
This year has been quite a year, to say the least. In all the chaos, anxiety, and stress, it can be hard to take a step back and find joy in the little things. Remember to take a moment or two to yourself each day to do something that brings you excitement and brings back that feeling you had on your first day of school, wearing your new cloths, and carrying your new lunchpack in hand.

Putting Products to The Test: Rocky Mountain Edition

July 20, 2021

With summer in full-swing that means there’s plenty of new opportunities for adventure. I had the chance to embark on a hiking trip in the Rocky Mountains. The trip included five incredible hikes in the Rockies and surrounding regions, totalling just over 70km and 4800m of elevation gain (not an easy feat to say the least!). The scenic views were breathtaking and felt so fortunate to explore such an incredible area in our very own backyard. I came prepared with all the equipment needed to conquer the trails, some old and some new. I thought I would review some of the products from Orthoquest to help other hikers and trail fanatics take off on their journeys!

Portofino officially became a shoe company in 1959, but you may be surprised to know the actual owner’s grandparents were already in the shoe business well before that. The company first built a solid reputation in children's shoes imported from Italy and already respecting many orthopaedic criteria.

A Simple Way to Improve Your Performance: Cycling

June 30, 2021

Ask any of our team members what their favourite summer activity is in the Okanagan and most of them will say cycling. Ask any person in Kelowna the same question and you may get an overwhelming positive response to road cycling as well. There's just something about feeling the warm Okanagan breeze through your hair as you ride by vineyards and climb up and down some twisty hills and admire the stunning views of the lake from above that makes you feel alive. Cycling isn't all rainbows and butterflies though, in between some of your best rides are flat tires, scrapes and falls, sunburns, tired legs and sore feet. And for those cyclist who are training to compete or riding against your own personal best - you'll understand the frustration that each little mishap or discomfort can cause.
