WHAT IS A KINESIOLOGIST?

Kinesiologists are human movement specialists. They design and implement exercise programs which are based on in-depth postural analysis, functional movement screens, and strength/flexibility assessments. Kinesiology is not just rehabilitative, but preventative and promotes general wellness. 

Kinesiology places a strong emphasis on prevention and movement enhancement. Kinesiologists utilize exercise to improve movement in order to achieve a better quality of life for individuals. Proper diet and exercise not only help in recovering from injury, but can also help prevent the development of many diseases such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and many other common conditions.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A KINESIOLOGIST & PERSONAL TRAINER

The biggest difference between a Personal Trainer and a Kinesiologist is the base level of education. Practicing Kinesiologists have a minimum of a Bachelors of Science (BSc.) in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, or Exercise Science. They are also registered through the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) and are required to have continuing education credits each year to be a practicing member. In comparison, personal trainer certifications usually include basic introductory levels of anatomy and kinesiology through weekend courses and minimal practical evaluations.

ACTIVE REHABILITATION

Have you been in an accident, have a current injury or dealing with more of a chronic condition or injury? Consider working with a Kinesiologist and let us help you move well, be well! The initial appointment is a one-hour assessment including a detailed medical health history interview, full body postural analysis, and functional movement testing. The information from the assessment is required for the Kinesiologist to create a custom, progressive exercise program designed specifically for you and your needs. The amount of sessions required following the assessment will be dependent on your injury/condition, your time/financial budget, and your bodies progression through active rehabilitation programming. RECOVERY/INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM

Our Kinesiologists will work with you to help you move better and concentrate on areas such promoting tissue elasticity, increasing your range of motion, and overall health by using techniques like Active Isolated Stretching, Soft Tissue Release, Myofascial Release, and Electrical Muscle Stimulation. GENERAL PHYSICAL CONDITIONING

CLINICAL PILATES

We offer both one-on-one, partner sessions, and small group programs. Stott Pilates principles are incorporated with mat and or the reformer (pilates machine) to address movement pattern dysfunctions and/or to maintain or gain improvements in strength and flexibility. An initial assessment is conducted by a Kinesiologist which involves a medical history interview, postural assessment, movement pattern tests, strength and flexibility tests.
